TANSA 探査 - JAPANESE THREADS OF INFLUENCE
115mm x 1100mm (115mm x 150mm x 100mm when rolled). Hand-dyed nylon monofilament, hand-dyed silk, Lurex yarns.
I am naturally drawn to colour and was inspired by the spectrum of colour seen throughout our jouney, from cityscapes and metropolitan galleries, to fragmetns of antique textiles and rural workshops, to the breathtaking view of Mount Fuji seen through the clouds, which I have expressed through this handwoven length. Using photographs and studies, I have been recording and picking colours as a way to document our travels and visits across Japan. The interaction of unwinding the piece also creates an experience for the viewer, seeing the different colours as they unwind it for the first time, similar to all the new thigns I saw and experiences for the first time in Japan.
Exhibited at The Crafts Study Centre, Farnham and then at Gallery Gallery, Kyoto
